The Rotunda and the Lawn
History Club had an architecture lesson on the Lawn at UVA today, including a scavenger hunt. We also found the garden where AC and I were married nearly 12 years ago, and Edgar Allan Poe’s room, preserved with period furniture, behind glass.

After listening to the audio information at Poe’s room, Sam’s friend said, “Edgar Allan Poe must’ve been the best student the university ever had!” Why else would the university preserve his room, behind glass, right?

“No,” I replied. “Actually he was probably one of the worst students the university ever had.”

An early lesson that success (or failure) in school may have little bearing on success (or failure) in later life. Poe certainly had plenty of both.
