25 September 2013 Fortified Broccoli

Overnight, practically, our 10 broccoli plants have been mowed down. We suspect the cutworm. It’s a caterpillar that munches on tender young plants in such a way that makes them look beheaded. Sam and I are devastated. This morning we put cardboard collars around the three remaining plants who aren’t completed severed. This is supposed to deter the cutworms. If I could add a moat and buckets of boiling pitch to dump on these cutthroat caterpillars, I would!
