Collaboration

Our local homeschool group has a weekly park meet-up on Tuesdays. Today we went to Pen Park. Behind the playground is a forested area with a bit of a clearing. The kids were thrilled to discover a stick hut there. They happily played until some older boys kicked them out, claiming a stronger tie to ownership: “Our cousin built this!”

The kids were disgruntled until they decided to build their own stick hut. Homeschool kids and school kids (it was by now after school time) all chipped in together. I have to say it was a beautiful collaboration. They probably spent 15 minutes or more trying to position that one log. After a while I looked over and saw the older boys who had claimed ownership of the existing stick hut standing in front of their dwelling, arms crossed, staring at the group collaboration, looking quite… disgruntled.

Priceless.
