Fan Mountain Observatory

Once again we failed to look through the giant telescope at Fan Mountain Observatory (we goofed and arrived too late), but we did hear a fascinating outdoor presentation on the constellations and got to look through some smaller telescopes, offered by a group of amateur astronomers. We also learned that this year is the last year that Venus will cross in front of the sun in our (probable) lifetimes. The date for the transit in our part of the globe is June 5 at 6:09PM. Next transit will be in 2117!
