1 January 2012 Upton’s Woods
All three of us were captivated by this field in Spotsylvania Battlefield Park. It was so quiet. So mysterious. And the tall stalks were as soft as Molly Bear, declared Sam. The bloody battle between Union and Confederate troops that clashed here in 1864 felt far away. Everything felt far away, really. We came to this field in search of a letterbox and a small outdoor adventure to start 2012. No sign of the letterbox. It was probably carried away by wind or animal some time ago. But that was okay. The field was worth it. The color of it–all red-gold and blue-grey. The peace of it. The hush. It was unexpected.
May 2012 bring us all some unexpected beauty and peace.
Happy New Year!
