31 October 2011 Look out, Mr. Jefferson!

The University of Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson in the early 19th-century. That’s his Rotunda in the background. I spent more years in graduate school at Mr. Jefferson’s University than I care to admit, but today was the first time I witnessed the famous “trick-or-treat on the Lawn”: all the undergraduates who live in the historic dormitories on the Lawn give out candy to trick-or-treaters. Soon after we arrived, that big green expanse behind Sam was covered with costumed kids. It was madness, but it was also quite festive.

Sam was pleased that there were only two other skeletons. And that none of them had glittery green bones.
