James River Heritage Trail

This Rail-Trail outside of Lynchburg had everything: river, bridges, island, trains, and this massive tunnel–about 100 yards long or more–cut right into the rock. It was awesome. Also awesome was that Sam rode her own bike the whole time (9 miles), I didn’t fall down, we didn’t get rained on, and we just happened to run into Aunts Scottie and Janet in the car park when we were just setting out on the trail. They are spending the holiday weekend camping in the area and had just come off the James River when they spotted someone who looked a lot like their niece Sam. And it was their niece Sam! Virginia is a big state. We couldn’t have timed a more fortuitous or funny meeting.
