4 February 2011 Richmond on the James
As seen from Rockett’s Landing near Grand-mère’s flat. It turns out that Richmond was named for the English town of Richmond near London because the view of the James reminded founder William Byrd of the view of the Thames from Richmond Hill.
After Grand-mère fed us a tasty lunch we walked along the river and then up Church Hill to wander a historic neighborhood, home to St. John’s Church where Patrick Henry made his famous “Give me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech.
On the drive home we stopped at Trader Joe’s to stock up on provisions. Visiting, walking, history + Trader Joe’s. Yes, it was a fine day.
