Easy Readers

Sam is just starting to get reading. This morning I made her a couple of quick, homemade easy readers: nothing fancy– just what I could think of off the top of my head–that would fit on 4 pages. Things like:

I am Sam. I love cats. Cats love rats. Rats run fast.

She loved these. “Now I’m going to make YOU a little book, Mommy!”

For her own easy readers, Sam plagiarized heavily and unabashedly. (I guess at some point we’ll have to talk about academic honesty.)

Then while I was out on a walk, AC got into the easy reader writing biz. He and Sam both proudly showed off their chefs d’oeuvres when I returned.

Here’s my favorite by AC:

I have a mug

I have a bell

The fine print says, “Don’t drink and drive.” Ever the responsible father.

I may be the aspiring story writer in the family, but AC might just have a future in writing easy readers that make mothers like me laugh till it hurts.
