Do you see Instructor David leaning over Sam in the picture? I could tell he was asking her something, but I couldn’t hear what. After class I asked her about that and she said, “Oh, David said, ‘I like your shirt, Sam. Where did you get it?'”

Sam was wearing the London 2012 Olympics t-shirt that her father had brought back for her from one of his trips to the UK last year. I think he got it at the airport.

I asked Sam, “What did you say?”

“I said it’s a LONdon shirt.”

“You don’t remember who gave it to you?”

“No.”

“It was from Daddy.”

“Oh. Well, I just told them that it was a LONdon shirt.” She articulated “London” as though it were a strange and quite possibly brand new set of syllables for them.

That explains why David and the other instructor laughed as they rolled their little Yank student down into the pit.
