(English) Muffins

It is so hard not to refer to these as English muffins. They are delicious and quite unlike “English” muffins in the US. Nooks and crannies belong to crumpets (also delicious) and the (delete nationality) muffin is softer, even when toasted, a bit more like a biscuit. An American biscuit, that is, not an English one, which is a cookie. Sheesh. Language.

Although I do believe that Waitrose chose their advertising copy with precision: these muffins are indeed “essential.” Sam and I eat one a piece every morning, toasted with strawberry jam.
