Marvelous Land of Oz

I know, this week it’s either snow pictures or Sam’s drawings, but hey, both are in plentiful supply around here. Just now while I was writing up yet another packing and storage list (movers are scheduled to pack up our house in California on Thursday) Sam sat down at the table and whipped out this drawing. We were listening to Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf (a French version) and when she handed me the drawing I assumed it had something to do Pierre and le loup.

“No, Mom, it’s the Land of Oz!”

Sam has been obsessed with L. Frank Baum’s second Oz novel for the last couple of weeks. I read it to her once and she’s listened to the audio book easily ten times.

I’ve heard it about ten times too and I must admit, it’s great.

So, above, from left to right are:

The Gump, Dorothy (who isn’t in the novel at all), Tip, the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, the Woggle Bug, and a cat (not from Land of Oz and not from Peter and the Wolf. I am told it’s “just a cat.”)
