9 Feb 2010 Garden Sprouts
Sam and a few other kids in the Garden Sprouts class at Tyler Arboretum watch as Miss Karen pries open a seed pod. The class today was about how winter plants provide food for animals and birds. After the walkabout through the Arboretum, the kids made bird feeders. Sadly, this project included peanut butter, so we had sit that part out (as did another girl). But Miss Karen assures me that we can try the old smear a pine cone with fatty stickiness and roll it in bird seed using Crisco. So our birds will be getting plump on trans fat– just in time for the next snow storm that’s supposed to blanket us tonight!
