Sam’s First Dream Report
Sam had a very restless night, after a fairly tumultuous day. I figured that she was picking up on the tension in the house due to the debit fraud incident. But now I think that yesterday she was starting to come down with something because today she is definitely sick. Her nighttime sleep was fragmented and short. When AC went into her room this morning, she had an odd explanation for why she was crying when she woke up:
Mommy and Daddy were wearing the same dressing-up as Lola and Lotta.* And you got out the little bag from my back ceiling. And then you said, “Do you want to go to the zoo?” And I didn’t understand because my eyes were still closed.
We’re pretty sure that Sam has been dreaming in her sleep for a while, but of course she’s not a reliable reporter of what goes on in her head in the night. (Are any of us?) This is really the first time that she has awakened and told us about something that she thinks just happened and that clearly did not. That makes this a dream in my book.
It will still be a while, though, until this kind of experience is a dream in Sam’s book. She could not understand why AC and I didn’t remember any of it. While I ran to get pen and paper to write her dream down, she asked her father, “Daddy, do you remember when you opened up the back ceiling?”
*Lola and Lotta are characters from Sam’s favorite (and mine too) BBC cartoon, Charlie and Lola.
