The Itsy Bitsy Spider

Sam and I spent the morning cleaning the house. Well, I cleaned, and Sam mostly created things for me to clean up, or tried to prevent me from cleaning, like when she grabbed an empty bucket from my hands and immediately filled it with toys and books. I felt like I was on one of those reality-contest shows. Steel housewife, or something. Except that Sammy was very good at pointing out cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling. Especially after I’d already packed the vacuum cleaner away. “Mommy there’s a spider web!”

Afterwards, during lunch, she sang me a little song:

“The itsy bitsy spider when up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy bitsy spider… went back inside the house.”

That’s not now we usually sing it, though we certainly could, given the spider population around here…
