Environment goes hand in hand with vocabulary. During our sojourn in PA, Sammy is picking up many new words.

• Penguin (pronounced like “pigalle”)– she has a giant stuffed penguin at her grandparents house.

• Lawnmower (“mow mow”)– she’s been enjoying playing with her Uncle’s old toy lawnmower

• Piano (“pee oh”)– we unearthed my old electronic keyboard for her

• Upstairs/downstairs (“upy stairs/dow stairs”)–ah the joys of monitoring stair usage without a baby gate! (No stairs in our CA house)

• Crane (“cray”)– we stopped and watched some home construction the other day. I told Sam that the crane was being used to build a house, and now she says: “Cray? Bill house?” Her realtor grandparents will be very proud.

• Oh, lady! (“oh lay ee!”)– a woman cut me off in a grocery store parking lot the other day. Now whenever we pull into said parking lot, Sam exclaims “Oh lay ee!”

Her mother was not so proud of that. Guess I need to start watching my own words.
