It’s Been…

One week since we started the Ferber sleep training. I think I will stop posting about this for a while, because the method seems to have worked. Sam can now get herself to sleep without us. She still wakes sometimes in the night and calls to us (last night it was at 5:30AM, but after we visited her briefly, she fell back asleep right away), and the daytime sleep is still an issue (today it took her 30 min to fall asleep, and then she slept for one 1 hour 20 min), but by and large, we feel like it worked. The change in the nighttime sleep is enormous. No more nursing her to sleep, rocking her, tiptoeing out of the room, being awoken at any time to go back and hold her, and then lying awake waiting for her to cry again. This has been good for all of us, especially Sam, I think, because she is now sleeping a good 10 hours at night.

I wish we had started this process a few months ago, and I feel insanely lucky that it has gone as well as it has. Of course we expect that there will be our fair share of rough nights over the coming months, what with learning to walk, more teething, and a return trip to the east coast coming up–all potential sleep disruptors. But for now, we are grateful for our relatively easier nights… in fact, I think I’ll head to bed right now!
