  • 16 June 2013 Yellow Band

    Jun 17, 2013

At our neighborhood pool, kids are banded according to height. Below 48 inches is blue. Above 48 inches is yellow. Sam is SO close to 48 inches tall but so far this summer it’s been one blue band after another. Until today when the lifeguard brought out the measuring stick and decided that Sam was at 48. Jun 11, 2013

The towering layer cake did not fall apart (much) and did its job of feeding 10 people. Sam and I spent much of Sunday making the cake–4 layers, two batches of icing, a very messy kitchen. But it resulted in one happy birthday girl.

  • 9 June 2013 The Postdiluvian Garden

    Jun 10, 2013

More rain yet again today (and tonight as I type this). The cemetery garden is looking quite lush, although the lettuce is starting to bolt and taste bitter. The peas and kale are still good, though.
