  • 17 December 2014 Splint

    Dec 17, 2014

The good news: all went well with surgery yesterday. They gave me a nerve block which is supposed to last 12-24 hours. As I write this, my foot and lower leg are still completely numb. I’m on pain meds already, though, for when the block subsides, which it can apparently do quite precipitously. Foot will remain in the

  • 15 December 2014 Gone!

    Dec 16, 2014

Whoohoo! Just as I was despairing of ever getting the pool table off of our driveway, someone bought it and carried it away this afternoon. Now I don’t have to worry about backing the car into it anymore. Of course, I won’t be backing the car up at all for at least 6 weeks. Surgery is tomorrow afternoon. Updates to

  • 14 December 2014 Still With Us

    Dec 15, 2014

We were hoping to sell the pool table at last this weekend. We lowered the price, had a number of interested responses, two people said they’d come see it, and
it is still with us Sunday night. Would-be buyers on Craigslist are flakier than a box of corn flakes.

  • 12 December 2014 Ornament Craft Fair

    Dec 13, 2014

When a homeschooling mom organized an ornament craft fair a few weeks ago, I volunteered to bring a craft, and then backed out, feeling overcommitted (3 days till surgery!) When Sam learned that “we” had backed out of the fair, she was horrified. Aghast. And she quickly took matters into her own hands. She devised her

  • 11 December 2014 Haiku Writing Station

    Dec 12, 2014

I ran a Haiku unit during our monthly history club meeting. (This month’s topics included medieval Japan). I worked with two groups that self-separated along gender lines. The boys wrote a haiku about an octopus: Stretching gracefully The water’s blackened with ink He is a rainbow The girls wrote a haiku about a

  • 8 December 2014 BĂ»che de NoĂ«l

    Dec 9, 2014

I think that's what the French Club kids were saying. We were all focused at that point on trying the bûche de Noël that AC, Sam and I made yesterday. Today Sam and I added marizpan champignons and other tree fungi to it (cake pictured bottom right). It was tasty! French Club goes on a break now, till February
