While we were away last week, the last lone jalapeÃ±o plant, which has been languishing indoors in a pot, ripened to red. We ate it this evening, enjoying the last bit of 2013’s bounty. Happy New Year!

The motorcycle died while AC was en route to work this morning, so Sam and I mounted a rescue mission. AC was fine. It seems to be a problem with the battery (again). He stashed the bike in a parking lot next to some classic cars, whose white walls are as wide as my arm.

Sam (with my help) collected and donated 80 lbs of non-perishable food to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. This is something she’s been wanting to do for a long time and we finally got it together. Sam made signs and flyers and distributed them to friends and neighbors. It was sobering to see how little 80 pounds of food …
