    I spent the day at the Society for Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators Mid-Atlantic annual conference. It was great, except for when the jet-lag caught up with me in the middle of the afternoon and I seriously wondered if anyone would mind if I took a nap under my seat.

    We ended up having about 30 minutes to kill before our coach left the station, so we killed them on the beach, in the sun, throwing rocks in the water. It’s never easy to say goodbye to this place.

    Today we reached our intended destination! Bus up to Devil’s Dyke and then a lovely walk down to the Shepherd and Dog pub at Fulking with Gabriel, Nellie and their two kids. It was steep going down (and steep going back up) but at least we had our destinations in view the whole time so there was no “faffing about” with

    were absolutely no help on our failed Pulborough to Amberley walk. We got lost twice and then when baby Sadie started to fuss it was time to find a pub and call it a day. This being England it was easy to find a pub. Much easier than finding the correct footpath to Amberley!
